The nurse called one of her colleagues and asked her to start the IV. She said some nurses are just better with fair complected children than others and she felt it would be in Ashers best interest to get a nurse that is really good at it. We waited for a little while and when the door opened we were surprised to find nurse Toni walk in. Way back in 2009 when Asher was getting ready to get released we had to get training on how to give Asher his emergency Cortisol shot in case he ever needed it, she was the one that trained us. We really like her. The nurse told nurse Toni that she felt better with her starting Ashers IV and Toni replied...oh i remember Asher, and he is STRONG. Yep, that's him alright.
Toni had no problem getting the IV going on the first try, they put a cuff on Asher so he wouldn't be able to bend his arm, and he was MAD. He cried and cried, my daughter finally got him to calm down by streaming netflix on her phone and him watching the movie Curious George. Figures lol. They drew blood every 30 minutes or so, at one point he got some medicine that tells the body to release growth hormones, later on he got some more medicine..not exactly sure what it was all i remember is that the nurse told us he would probably go to sleep soon afterwards. She was right.
Snuggled up with his mommy
We were finally able to leave around noon. The nurse told my daughter that the doctor should call her within the next two weeks and if she didn't for her to call the clinic.
Within 2 days my daughter got the call from the endocrinologist. Asher will need to get started on growth hormones and they are planning on starting the shots in March of next year. He will have to get a daily shot till he's at least 16 years old. Sigh. Not what we had hoped for but as I said to my daughter..he's been thru worse, he'll get used to it and i'm sure it will be a lot harder on her and us than it will be on him. I'm sure he will be ok.
We picked Asher up yesterday after work, stopped at Wal-Mart on our way home where he charmed all kinds of shoppers..he is a big flirt when he wants to be and ended up at home later than usual. One of Ashers favorite things to do around here is to play with my husband..to just have his undivided attention..just watch these two play together, Asher LOVES it and I think my husband loves it just as much:
Sorry for the quality, I just grabbed my phone to record it.
After all of that monkeying around we put Asher to bed, i went into the garage and my husband came out 10 minutes later and asked if i was listening to the baby monitor. I wasn't since my husband was in the house, he told me that he heard a thump and Asher was not asleep yet, which is very unusual. So we went in to check on him and when my husband opened the door with me following behind him, I heard Asher say: POOOOOOOOP. I'm not gonna get into details, lets just say we had to do a major clean up of Asher, his bed, crib and surrounding areas. Lets just call it Ashers unique art work. Sigh. We laughed so hard because that was the first time I ever heard him say Poop.
I was not laughing at 4 am this morning when Asher woke up. Got him up and sat him in the recliner and I was on the couch and we ended up watching Curious George for the upteenth time. There are not many people i wake up for that early on a saturday morning, but for some reason I don't mind (as much) when it's for Asher. Love you lil guy XOXOXO G'ma
