My daughter called me this afternoon at work and told me that the endocrinologist called her to tell her the results of the blood tests from Monday.
His cortizone level is fine. GREAT NEWS! This means that Asher will not have to take cortisol pills anymore. One more medicine to scratch off his list. I'm guessing they will still test for it every now and then just to make sure the levels remain ok but at this point it looks like his body is producing it itself. I'm really happy about this news. I posted about his last brain tumor clinic appointment 3-4 months ago and said then that I had asked her how long he will have to be on Cortisol and she said then that there was a good chance he'll be on it for life. Guess he showed her, didn't he? hahaha..in a good way : )
At this point Asher is down to taking only one pill a day. His thyroid medicine. The doctor told my daughter that the levels were fine for this also BUT that the thyroid is a vital part of brain development and she just does not want to risk taking him off this medicine yet, especially since his tumor was in the brain. She wants him to keep taking Levythyroxin (sp?) for now. That is ok. I'm glad she's playing it safe.
She also said that there is a huge chance that Asher will have to take growth hormones sooner or later. We knew that since his oncologist suggested for him to do proton radiation. We knew that there was a very big chance that his pituitary gland will be wiped out during radiation, it was a small trade off considering no radiation would have meant there would be a bigger chance for the tumor to grow back.
This little boy amazes me each and every day. I'm so happy for him.
Ashers new word that he has learned: "laptop". Sigh. Still no grandma. I think he just enjoys seeing me run after him and going: Asher say grandma!
We are still waiting on the results from the MRI..will update as soon as we know something!
